The investment falls under the agreement between SUEK, the Government of Krasnoyarsk region, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, and the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resource Usage.
The Chair of the Government of Krasnoyarsk, Viktor Tomenko, said, “SUEK mines close to 30million tons of coal in the region yearly. The coal is used in various sectors for different purposes. Over time the company has been a good taxpayer and employer of labour. Their commitment to the region shows they care about the region. As a region, we do not doubt that SUEK has the right environmental action plans. We are confident it will be in the right quality and on schedule.”

The water treatment facilities at the Berezovsky site was renovated. The renovation brought about a new system for waste disposal such as flammable materials and so on. The facilities also house a heat-treatment unit designed for disposing waste materials at the mine. Previously waste had to be deposited using trucks and third-party contractors. Overall, the unit is eco-friendly, and it houses a specially made filtering system for gases, thus reducing the risk of atmospheric emissions.
In the past few years, there are several environmental relating to air protection initiated at the Nazarovsky site. This has led to more than 800 hectares of land reclaimed and given back to the state.
The goal of SUEK is to upgrade the water removal system in Borodinsky and help minimize pollution of water removed from the waste discharge. The same system is currently in use in Nazarovsky.
