Best Winter Treks in Northeast

Goecha – La : –

Due to its unparalleled and unspoiled beauty, the Dzongri Goecha La Trek is among the most demanding and arduous treks in the nation but also one of the most rewarding. It is located at the height of 16,207 ft., is the high mountain pass in the Himalayan range.

  • To reach the Yuksom-Dzongri Pass, which is high in the Himalayas in Sikkim, you must hike through beautiful scenery, thick woods, and rhododendron bushes.
  • And if you’re fortunate, you might even see some uncommon birds while hiking. It truly is a stroll into heaven.
  •  There are many surprises on the way like Samiti lake, the mystical settings of Thanshing, and a beautiful view from the Dzongri top.
  • Trekking through Kanchenjunga National Park, one of the greenest regions in the world, remains one of the best things to do for holidays in the Himalayas.
  •  The Goecha La is also featured in the 100 rupee Indian note because of its astonishing beauty.

Talley Valley, Ziro : –

One of the most beautiful treks in Arunachal Pradesh is the Ziro or Talley Valley Trek, which features lush greenery, mountains, glaciers, and rare fauna. It starts in Zero Valley and concludes at Talley Valley, which is also home to the same-named wildlife refuge. Since there aren’t many people there, you may interact with the native tribes and enjoy nature and the environment at their best. And if you’re fortunate enough, you might even see the endangered Clouded Leopard.

Sandakphu Trek : –

Do you know what makes this expedition the best one yet? If it’s a clear day, you can see the world’s tallest peaks (Kangchenjunga, Kumbhakarna, Pandim, Kabru, and Everest) from Sandakphu as well as the lesser ones.

  • It is located at 11,930 ft.
  • The peak is situated at the edge of the Singalila National Park. The Sandakphu peak lies on the border of India and Nepal.
  • It is not a difficult trek. Therefore, even if you are in pretty good health, you should have no trouble completing this walk.
  • All seasons are suitable for walking here, but the winter months offer a whole different experience.
  • Start your trip from either Darjeeling or Manebhanjan and travel through charming towns, stunning lakes, enchanted forests, and breathtaking sunsets.
  • You also get to travel through the Singalila National Park, where you may see rhododendrons in blossom.
  • Sandakphu and Phalut is one of the most popular in the Eastern Himalayas, owing not only to the stupendous vistas of the Kanchenjunga and Everest range which it affords, but also to its seasonal wildflowers and opportunities for bird watching.

Living Root Bridge : –

The War Khasi tribes found the stunning region of Meghalaya’s living root bridges, which are made of the sturdy roots of the Ficus elastica tree and are utilised to cross the numerous rivers.

  • You can travel through Cherrapunji, the wettest region on earth, while staying in a village tree house in Mawlynnong, a verdant eco hamlet.
  • Discover the Khasi tribes while taking in the breathtaking views of the Khasi hills.
  • A true cultural experience of the beautiful India can be had on one of the treks in North East India.

Phawngpui Peak : –

The Blue Mountains are greatly venerated, and walking through their blue haze while watching clouds pass by and experiencing Mizo culture is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. In the home of the gods, you can see exotic birds, orchids, rhododendrons, and more as sights to behold. The Phawngpui summit offers stunning views of the Chhimtuipui River and the Myanmar highlands.

Sela Pass : –

Trek through Monpa towns with historic monasteries, chortens, and main walls, as well as Buddhist pathways. Another stunning, protracted, and well-liked journey in Arunachal Pradesh is the Sela-Tawang Trek.

  • The 6th Dalai Lama’s birthplace at Urgeling, the Tawang and Khin Me monasteries, the Sange Ryabgelling shrine, and streams and valleys dotted with unique birds and plants like oak and pine are all visible.
  • Due to its length, the walk is completed in sections and also makes use of a motorable road.
  • From here, the Gorichen Peak, the highest point in Arunachal, is beautiful. You pass by pristine lakes and glacier rivers on the walk as well.
