Maze rooms come in all different themes, types, and sizes. There’s a wide, wide world of maze rooms out there for every interest – and yet each one works on pretty much the same fundamental principles inspired by classic puzzle designs. That’s why these tips for success are sure to work for any maze room. Read on to find out more!
1. Get the big picture
Before you get sucked into a particular puzzle or throw yourself into any one task, try to get a sense of the room as a whole. That way, you will be able to better prioritize and divide up tasks among your team. Time is of the essence, and you’ll want to manage it as efficiently as possible. So before digging into the details, explore the room. Check out the nooks and crannies, look for hidden clues, and turn it all inside out. Attention to detail is definitely important, but don’t miss the forest for the trees.
2. Keep it moving
If you’ve run into a gnarly problem and seem to be getting nowhere, give it a rest. Simply doing more of the same over and over is rarely effective. So take a breather and see if there’s something else in the room that might be more worthwhile to spend your time on for now. And don’t go it alone – ask your teammates for help. It might be helpful to get some different perspectives, or just work on something else for now and return to the problem with a fresh mindset. You might even find an outside key to your problem while you’re at it. Sometimes the solution really does lie outside the box.
3. Don’t hesitate to ask for hints
Most maze rooms will offer to give you a limited amount of hints when you’re struggling. Take advantage of these opportunities! There’s no shame in admitting you need a little help. Just be judicious about when you ask. Don’t use them all up at once, but also don’t be too stingy. Trust your judgment to tell you when the time is right.
