If you are in India during the Diwali time, you are going to enjoy a “once in a lifetime” experience. You will see all the streets decorated with beautiful lights and each and every Indian household with beautiful Diwali lanterns and Diyas.

Diwali is one of the biggest Hindu festivals celebrated all majorly in India. It marks the victory of lights over the darkness, which is why it is also popularly known as the festival of lights. During the Diwali Festive season, you can see and hear a lot of fireworks all around the country. Things like firecrackers, Diwali sweets, new clothes, home decorations are some of the necessary customs of this festive aura.

Each year, this festival of lights falls between mid of October to the first week of November. The Indian lunar calendar dictates this date of Diwali. In India, Diwali is not just limited to Hindus. It holds an important place in other religions as well, like Jainism and Sikhism. Hindus celebrate Diwali to cherish the victory of good over evil and seek blessings from Lord Ganesh and Goddess Laxmi. Hindus celebrate Diwali for five days, and that includes Bhai Dooj that signifies the bond between brothers and sisters. Then come the Dhanteras that is celebrated to seek blessings from Laxmi-the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Then it’s Narak Chaturdashi which marks the triumph of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura.

Jains and Sikhs celebrate Diwali for other reasons. In Jainism, Vardhaman Mahavir, the founder of Jainism, attained Nirvana on this day. He is also the last Tirthankar in Jainism. On the other hand, the sixth guru of Sikhs named Guru Hargobind free himself from the Jehangir, a Muslim ruler. According to Hindusim, Diwali is the day when Lord Rama returned to Ayodhya after completing his 14-year exile. Also, it’s the day when Goddess Laxmi chose Lord Vishnu as her husband.

Indians celebrate Diwali with the utmost enthusiasm and joy. Rituals such as cooking Diwali cuisine, inviting relatives and friends, decorating homes, wearing new clothes, or exchanging gifts are very popular during the Diwali period.

If you are an Indian living away from your family in any country like the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc., and you want to send Diwali gifts to India then you can use the gifting services of Gifts N Roses. They have one of the biggest collections of online gifts along with gifts for other occasions as well. Distance is no longer an excuse when you want to wish your friends and family on festivals.
