Carpets are indeed of great value for a cosy and warm-feeling home. As much as we would like for them to remain clean 24/7, that is practically impossible. Dirt and hair quickly gets trapped in the fibres of the carpet, making it easy for bacteria to thrive. This can lead to mould and bad odour. For that reason it is very important to regularly clean our carpets, using the most efficient tips and techniques.
Vacuum regularly!
As it is not possible to professionally deep clean your carpets on a regular basis, it is of big importance to make sure you vacuum clean them often. Every time you step onto the carpet, dust and debris transfers and sets into the fibres. If you live by yourself, a vacuum once a week should be enough to keep the carpets nice and fresh. If you have a big family, as well as pets, it is recommended that you vacuum your carpets at least three times a week!
Dealing with spills:
It is very easy for a spill on a carpet to become a permanent stain. This is why you should deal with it immediately after it happens. The best way to tend to your carpet, after a spill has happened is to soak it with a dry sheet, or to use a carpet cleaner before the liquid soaks into the fibres. Make sure you do not start rubbing the stain vigorously, but soak it gently with a dry towel, from the edges toward the middle, instead. This way you will prevent the stain from spreading and becoming a bigger problem.
Take your shoes off!
While this may seem like a difficult and annoying thing to control, it can be a life saver for your carpets! Shoes carry a lot of dirt and debris, which gets transferred and trapped into the fibres of your carpets, every time you step onto them. In addition, shoes are a lot harder on the fibres, that your bare feet! You can get a sign for your front door, or a place to store your shoes. This will remind your guest, and yourself, to take your shoes off before going in!
Move furniture around!
Furniture is heavy, so if you leave it in one spot for too long, it will begin to add weight marks on your carpet. This is why it might be a good idea to rearrange you furniture from time to time, in order to prevent permanent weight marks from forming. This also allows you to occasionally bring some refreshing change into the household!
Regular deep cleaning!
In addition to all the hacks and tips, which you can use to keep your carpets fresh and damage-free, it is also very important to have them deep cleaned on occasion.
