Do your research
Most models only look at their test shoots shortly before the actual shoot. Modeling agencies in Dubai recommend trying to do at least a bit of preliminary research about the photographer you will be shooting with.
Check out some of their work, even when it is just on your smartphone. Also, read their bio on their website.
By taking an initiative to look into the works of the person you are shooting with, you will become an aware and safe model. Whenever you’re not comfortable with provocative photos and you are being sent to a photographer who likes to push boundaries, the shoot can result in a disaster.
On the other hand, knowing what works for a certain photographer coupled with your own signature poses can also mean a smooth and breezy fashion shoot.
Making an effort to get to know your photographer in advance also indicates professional courtesy. They might have seen something in your book that they liked so they chose you; get to know them through their work as well.
Have a bit of imagination
There are some photographers who prefer a blank canvas that they can mold into anything they visualize. But having some imagination when you are in front of the camera is always a total hit.
You’ll immediately know which side of the coin the photographer depends on. When they meticulously pose your shot, you just go with it because some people want to work that way. If you are an open-minded person, you can also try different things. Bring some creativity to the table by experimenting and moving fast.
Be punctual
Though some photographers are aware that you just came from one shoot to another, just do your best to be punctual. After all, you’ve got your schedule laid out for you, right?
If you know that your home or current location is too far from your next shooting area, then do not leave 10 minutes before your call time. Estimate the amount of time it will take to reach your next destination and add some extra minutes to it. This way, even when there is some road or foot traffic, you’ll still arrive on time.
And if you are going to be late, you must absolutely inform your photographer about it by either texting or calling them. You do not want them waiting for a long time, wondering where you’ve been and what time you’ll arrive. And say sorry!
Know where the light is
Great models fully understand where the lighting is coming from. When you are shooting in a studio, take note where your photographer is putting their lights. But when you are shooting outdoors, pay attention to where the sun is. Don’t forget to use this information whenever you go to a shoot.
Generally, you should not turn away from the light or even put things in between your face and the light source. Do not hesitate to ask if you do not know where the main light is coming from. This does not just help you orchestrate your movements but will help you make good use of the space available.
Go above and beyond
Models that get the job done based on the brief and produce consistently good images are considered perfect models. But you can be better than them. How?
You have to do more than you’re asked. Aim to produce photos that go beyond what the photographer expects. Be friendly but remain polite. Also, show interest in other members of the team. Make everyone’s day brighter so you can be remembered positively and get those images right.
Make yourself available
Some models say that the idea of doing “time for print” or TFP work is bad and shameful. But experts and famous millennial models say that there is a huge benefit of doing this from the model/photographers relationship perspective.
When you’re available for TFP work or work that falls outside the normal or short notice work, you are conveying a clear message to the photographers. And that is: you can get the job done. So the next time they have available paid work, they will definitely think of you first.
